Montevideo Open: Sierra advances to last 8
Solana Sierra won against Ekaterine Gorgodze 6-3, 3-6, 6-3 on Thursday evening. She’ll face the winner of the match between Frenchwoman Diane Parry, the top seed, and Greek Despina Papamichail in the next round
Argentinian Solana Sierra, the No 7 seed, reached the last 8 of the Montevideo Open by beating Georgian Ekaterine Gorgodze 6-3, 3-6, 6-3 at the Carrasco Lawn Tennis Club on Thursday evening.
Sierra, ranked No 193, will play the winner of the match between Frenchwoman Diane Parry, the top seed, and Greek Despina Papamichail next.
The 19-year-old Argentinian won against Brazilian wildcard Carolina Bohrer Martins (6-4, 6-1) ahead of her victory.
In the previous round of the Uruguayan tournament, Gorgodze, ranked No 341, defeated Uruguayan wildcard Juliana Rodriguez (6-3, 6-4).
