Morocco Open: Former US Open champion Stephens moves into last eight

American Sloane Stephens, the second seed, advanced to the last eight of the Morocco Open by beating Hungarian Timea Babos 6-3, 6-1 at Union Sportive des Cheminots du Maroc in Rabat on Wednesday.

Stephens, ranked No 35, will play the winner of the match between Canadian Leylah Fernandez, the No 5 seed, and American Peyton Stearns next.

Ahead of her victory, the American won against Russian wildcard Vera Zvonareva (7-5, 6-4).

Babos, ranked No 237, won against Russian Irina Khromacheva (6-4, 6-1) in the previous round of the Rabat Grand Prix.
