Mumbai Open: Hunter advances to semi-finals after Korneeva withdraws

Australian Storm Hunter reached the semi-finals of the Mumbai Open after Russian Alina Korneeva withdrew before the match on Friday night at the Cricket Club of India.

Hunter, ranked No 150, will face the winner of the match between American Katie Volynets, the No 8 seed, and lucky loser Sohyun Park next.

The Australian benefited from the abandonment of Hungarian qualifier Fanny Stollar (3-0) and defeated Brazilian Laura Pigossi, the No 5 seed (6-3, 6-3) ahead of her victory. Earlier in the tournament, Korneeva, ranked No 134, won against Frenchwoman Chloe Paquet (6-1, 6-3) and edged out Indian qualifier Shrivalli Bhamidipaty (5-7, 6-4, 6-4).
