Mumbai Open: Volynets through to semi-finals

American Katie Volynets, the No 8 seed, reached the last 4 of the Mumbai Open by winning against lucky loser Sohyun Park 6-1, 6-2 at the Cricket Club of India on Friday.

Volynets, ranked No 113, will face Australian Storm Hunter next.

Ahead of her victory, the 22-year-old American beat Indian wildcard Ankita Raina (6-4, 6-2) and Indian wildcard Rutuja Bhosale (7-6 (8), 2-6, 6-1).

Park, ranked No 306, won against Indian wildcard Vaishnavi Adkar (6-2, 2-6, 6-1) and Italian lucky loser Camilla Rosatello (6-3, 5-7, 6-3) earlier in the tournament.
