Frenchwoman Leolia Jeanjean, the No 8 seed, won against Ukrainian Valeriya Strakhova 6-2, 6-1 to move into the semi-finals of the MundoTenis Open on Friday evening.
Jeanjean, ranked No 162, will play the winner of the match between Pole Maja Chwalinska, the No 7 seed, and Egyptian Mayar Sherif, the second seed, next.
The Frenchwoman defeated Russian Daria Lodikova (6-1, 7-6 (5)) and Serb Nina Stojanovic (6-1, 6-1) ahead of her victory.
Earlier in the tournament, Strakhova, ranked No 268, won against Romanian Miriam Bulgaru (4-6, 6-4, 6-2) and Brazilian Carolina M. Alves (6-3, 6-4).
