Egyptian Mayar Sherif, the second seed, won against Portuguese Francisca Jorge 6-1, 6-3 to move into the quarter-finals of the MundoTenis Open on Thursday evening.
Sherif, ranked No 68, will face Pole Maja Chwalinska, the No 7 seed, next.
The Egyptian defeated Spaniard Guiomar Maristany Zuleta De Reales (6-3, 7-5) in the previous round.
In the previous round, Jorge, ranked No 189, benefited from the abandonment of Russian Ekaterina Makarova (2-6, 7-6 (5), 4-0).
