Swiss Viktorija Golubic defeated British woman Heather Watson 7-5, 6-2 to advance to the quarter-finals of the Nottingham Open at Nottingham Tennis Centre on Wednesday evening.
Golubic, ranked No 55 in the world, will face the winner of the match between Australian Ajla Tomljanovic, the No 5 seed, and qualifier Katie Boulter in the last eight.
The Swiss had benefited from the retirement of second seed Emma Raducanu (at 4-3 in the first set) in her opening round match this week while 102nd ranked Watson had beaten American Katie Volynets (6-4, 6-2) in the second round.
