German Eva Lys advanced to the quarter-finals of the Open delle Puglie by beating Romanian Jaqueline Cristian, the No 3 seed, 6-7 (3), 6-4, 6-3 on Thursday evening.
Lys, ranked No 143, will play Romanian Anca Todoni next.
The 22-year-old German won against Greek Sapfo Sakellaridi (6-0, 6-0) in the previous round.
In the previous round, Cristian, ranked No 69, won against Italian wildcard Camilla Rosatello (6-2, 6-3).
