Romanian Ana Bogdan, the second seed, edged out Ukrainian Katarina Zavatska 4-6, 6-2, 6-4 to advance to the quarter-finals of the Parma Ladies Open on Wednesday.

Bogdan, ranked No 71, will play the winner of the match between Romanian Jaqueline Cristian, the No 5 seed, and Dutch qualifier Eva Vedder next.

The Romanian beat Spaniard Marina Bassols Ribera (6-1, 7-5) ahead of her victory.

In the previous round, Zavatska, ranked No 194, won against Australian Astra Sharma (7-5, 4-6, 6-3).
