Parma Open: Bogdan knocks out third seed Begu to reach semi-finals

Sixth seed Ana Bogdan advanced to the semi-finals of the Parma Open by beating No 3 seed Irina-Camelia Begu 6-2, 7-6 (6) at the Tennis Club Parma on Thursday evening.
Bogdan, ranked No 53, will play Egyptian Mayar Sherif next.
Bogdan won against Brazilian Laura Pigossi (6-1, 6-2) and Slovak qualifier Anna Karolina Schmiedlova (6-2, 3-6, 6-3) in the previous rounds.
Earlier in the tournament, Begu, ranked No 33, benefitted from the abandonment of Bulgarian Viktoriya Tomova (7-5, 5-1) and won against Italian wildcard Matilde Paoletti (6-4, 6-4).
