American Catherine McNally defeated German Jule Niemeier 6-4, 6-3 to reach the last 16 of the Puerto Vallarta Open on Wednesday night.
McNally, ranked No 169, will face Argentinian Maria Lourdes Carle, the No 5 seed, next.
