Puerto Vallarta Open: Watson moves into semi-finals

Heather Watson defeated Canadian Marina Stakusic 6-3, 6-1 to advance to the last four of the Puerto Vallarta Open on Friday night.

Watson, ranked No 206, will next face the winner of the match between wildcard Linda Fruhvirtova and Australian Maya Joint, the second seed.

Earlier in the event Watson beat American Whitney Osuigwe (6-0, 6-3) and Spaniard Sara Sorribes Tormo, the No 6 seed (3-6, 6-4, 6-2).

Stakusic, ranked No 126, advanced to the quarter-finals by defeating Croat wildcard Ana Konjuh (6-3, 7-5) and Italian Elisabetta Cocciaretto, the No 3 seed (W/O).
