French qualifier Fiona Ferro moved into the second round of the Rouen Open by edging out American McCartney Kessler, the No 4 seed, 6-7 (8), 6-2, 7-5 at the Kindarena on Monday.
Ferro, ranked No 376, will play the winner of the match between qualifier Margaux Rouvroy and lucky loser Jessika Ponchet next.
