Saint-Malo Open: Stephens to meet Svitolina in semis

American wildcard Sloane Stephens moved into the last four of the Saint-Malo Open by beating Frenchwoman Jessika Ponchet 6-2, 2-6, 6-1 at the Parc des sports de Marville on Friday evening.

Stephens, ranked No 48, will face Ukrainian wildcard Elina Svitolina next.

In the previous rounds of the Saint-Malo tournament, the American won against French qualifier Emeline Dartron (6-1, 6-1) and lucky loser Freya Christie (6-1, 6-1).

Ponchet, ranked No 124, won against Spaniard Rosa Vicens Mas (6-4, 6-4) and Diane Parry (6-3, 6-4) earlier in the tournament.
