Thailand Open: Kostyuk makes quarter-finals

Ukrainian Marta Kostyuk, the No 5 seed, advanced to the last eight of the Thailand Open by defeating Japanese Nao Hibino 6-3, 7-6 (7) at the True Arena Hua Hin on Thursday night.

Kostyuk, ranked No 60, will face the winner of the match between Canadian Bianca Andreescu, the top seed, and Russian Anastasia Zakharova next.

Ahead of her victory, the 20-year-old Ukrainian won against qualifier En-Shuo Liang (6-7 (7), 6-3, 6-0).

Hibino, ranked No 139, beat Russian qualifier Valeria Savinykh (6-0, 6-2) in the previous round of the Hua Hin tournament.
