Thailand Open: Wang books spot in semi-finals

Chinese Yafan Wang moved into the last four of the Thailand Open by edging out American Katie Volynets 1-6, 6-3, 7-6 (4) at the True Arena Hua Hin on Friday.
Wang, ranked No 78, will play Chinese Lin Zhu, the second seed, next.
The Chinese defeated Russian qualifier Alina Korneeva (6-2, 6-4) and Slovak Anna Karolina Schmiedlova, the No 8 seed (6-2, 6-4) ahead of her victory.
Earlier in the tournament, Volynets, ranked No 125, won against Slovenian Tamara Zidansek (6-2, 6-2) and German Tatjana Maria, the No 4 seed (5-7, 6-2, 6-2).
