Georgian qualifier Ekaterine Gorgodze edged out Spaniard Aliona Bolsova 4-6, 6-2, 6-4 to advance to the quarter-finals of the Tiriac Foundation Trophy on Thursday.
Gorgodze, ranked No 426, will face Belgian Marie Benoit next.
The Georgian edged out Swiss Simona Waltert (6-4, 3-6, 6-4) ahead of her victory.
In the previous round, Aliona Bolsova beat Latvian Darja Semenistaja, the No 4 seed (3-6, 6-3, 6-1).
