Australian Astra Sharma edged out Hungarian Anna Bondar, the No 5 seed, 4-6, 6-3, 7-5 to reach the last four of the Tiriac Foundation Trophy on Friday.
Sharma, ranked No 216, will face the winner of the match between Romanian Jaqueline Cristian, the No 3 seed, and Argentinian Maria Lourdes Carle next.
Earlier in the tournament, the Australian defeated Swiss Ylena In-Albon (6-2, 6-1) and edged out Romanian Ana Bogdan, the top seed (6-7 (2), 7-6 (3), 7-5).
Bondar, ranked No 110, edged out Greek Valentini Grammatikopoulou (6-3, 2-6, 6-4) and won against Belgian qualifier Marie Benoit (6-1, 6-2) in the previous rounds.
