Chinese Qinwen Zheng, the top seed, advanced to the quarter-finals of the Queen’s by edging out American McCartney Kessler 6-3, 4-6, 7-5 at Queen’s Club in London on Thursday evening.
Zheng, ranked No 5, will play wildcard Emma Raducanu next.
Kessler, ranked No 42, beat wildcard Francesca Jones (6-2, 6-4) in the previous round of the Queen’s tournament.
