Pavlyuchenkova tops Alexandrova to reach semis at Tokyo

Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova moved into the last 4 of the Toray Pan Pacific Open Tennis Tournament by beating Ekaterina Alexandrova 6-2, 7-5 on Friday night.
Two-time finalist Pavlyuchenkova is into her first hard court semi-final since 2019 – the world No 86 will bid to reach her first final at any level since Roland-Garros in 2021 against either Iga Swiatek or Veronika Kudermetova on Saturday in Tokyo.
Earlier in the tournament, Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova won against Croat Donna Vekic (6-1, 6-1) and Linda Noskova (6-3, 4-6, 6-0).
Alexandrova, ranked No 21, edged out wildcard Anna Kalinskaya (6-7 (7), 6-1, 7-5) and won against No 7 seed Liudmila Samsonova (6-4, 6-2) in the previous rounds.
