Chinese Xiyu Wang, the No 7 seed, advanced to the quarter-finals of the Transylvania Open by Verdino by edging out Romanian wildcard Elena-Gabriela Ruse 6-1, 6-7 (8), 7-6 (6) on Thursday evening.
Wang, ranked No 59, will play Spaniard Nuria Parrizas Diaz next.
In the previous round, the 21-year-old Chinese beat Romanian Jaqueline Cristian (6-3, 6-3).
Ruse, ranked No 104, won against French lucky loser Harmony Tan (6-7 (5), 6-2, 6-3) in the previous round.
