Transylvania Open: Lys eases into semi-finals

German Eva Lys won against Russian qualifier Ekaterina Makarova 6-2, 6-2 to reach the semi-finals of the Transylvania Open at the BTarena in Cluj-Napoca on Friday evening.

Lys, ranked No 133, will face German Tamara Korpatsch next.

In the previous rounds of the Cluj-Napoca tournament, the 21-year-old German beat Romanian Sorana Cirstea, the top seed (6-3, 6-3) and Romanian Jaqueline Cristian (2-6, 7-5, 6-2).

Makarova, ranked No 213, won against Ukrainian Kateryna Baindl, the No 7 seed (6-3, 1-6, 6-1) and Romanian Patricia Maria Tig (6-2, 2-6, 6-3) earlier in the tournament.
