Russian qualifier Ekaterina Makarova beat Romanian Patricia Maria Tig 6-2, 2-6, 6-3 to reach the quarter-finals of the Transylvania Open at the BTarena in Cluj-Napoca.
Makarova, ranked No 213, will face the winner of the match between German Eva Lys and Romanian Jaqueline Cristian next.
The Russian won against Ukrainian Kateryna Baindl, the No 7 seed (6-3, 1-6, 6-1) ahead of her victory.
In the previous round of the Cluj-Napoca tournament, Tig, ranked No 462, defeated Greek qualifier Martha Matoula (6-4, 6-7 (5), 6-3).
