Chinese Yue Yuan advanced to the last 16 of the Trophée Clarins by defeating German Anna-Lena Friedsam, the No 8 seed, 6-1, 6-4 at the Lagardère Paris Racing on Monday.
Yuan, ranked No 120, will face the winner of the match between Diane Parry and wildcard Selena Janicijevic next.
