American Ashlyn Krueger advanced to the last eight of the Veneto Open when Katie Swan retired at the Tennis Club Gaiba on Thursday afternoon.

Krueger, ranked No 143, led 6-3, 4-6, 5-5 when Swan, ranked No 137, pulled out at the Tennis Club Gaiba on Thursday.

The 19-year-old American will face the winner of the match between Italian Lucrezia Stefanini, the No 7 seed, and Russian Evgeniya Rodina next.

Ashlyn Krueger won against Slovenian Dalila Jakupovic (6-3, 6-2) ahead of her victory.

In the previous round of the Gaiba tournament, Katie Swan beat Italian Sara Errani, the second seed (7-5, 7-5).
