Badosa continues form in Cincinnati, knocks out Kalinskaya

Spaniard Paula Badosa moved into the last 16 of the Western & Southern Open by winning against Russian Anna Kalinskaya, the No 13 seed, 6-3, 6-2 at the Lindner Family Tennis Center in Cincinnati on Thursday.

The win is a continuation of Badosa’s recent strong form, and the former world No 2 has now won eight of her last nine matches, with three top 20 wins in 2024 now.

Badosa, ranked No 37, will face the winner of the match between Kazakh Yulia Putintseva and American Coco Gauff, the second seed, next.

The Spaniard beat American wildcard Peyton Stearns (6-2, 7-5) ahead of her victory.

In the previous round of the Cincy Open, Kalinskaya, ranked No 16, defeated Katerina Siniakova (1-6, 6-2, 6-3).
