Tomljanovic advances to last eight at Cincinnati WTA 1000

Ajla Tomljanovic came back from the brink of defeat to prevail over Veronika Kudermetova 3-6, 7-6(4), 6-3 in round three of the Western & Southern Open on Thursday evening.
Tomljanovic, ranked No 63, will play Czech Petra Kvitova next.
The Australian edged out American qualifier Taylor Townsend (6-4, 3-6, 7-5) and beat Spaniard Paula Badosa, the No 3 seed (6-7(3), 6-0, 6-2) ahead of her victory.
Earlier in the tournament, Kudermetova, ranked No 20, beat Czech Barbora Krejcikova (6-3, 6-3) and Romanian Simona Halep, the No 15 seed (W/O).
