Belarusian Victoria Azarenka, the No 8 seed, edged out Latvian Jelena Ostapenko, the No 3 seed, 6-3, 3-6, 7-5 to move into the semi-finals of the Brisbane Open at the Queensland Tennis Center on Friday.

Azarenka, ranked No 23 in the world and a two-time champion at this event, will play the winner of the match between Belarusian Aryna Sabalenka, the top seed, and Russian Daria Kasatkina, the No 5 seed, next.

Ahead of her win today, the 34-year-old Belarusian won against Russian Anna Kalinskaya (6-1, 7-6 (8)) and Frenchwoman Clara Burel (7-5, 6-2).

Ostapenko, ranked No 12 in the world, defeated Italian Camila Giorgi (6-1, 6-4) and No 16 seed Karolina Pliskova (6-2, 4-6, 6-3) earlier in the week.
