Romanian Jaqueline Cristian won against Russian Veronika Kudermetova 6-2, 6-3 to reach the second round of the BNP Paribas Open at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden on Thursday.
Cristian, ranked No 79, will play No 27 seed Leylah Fernandez next.
