Russian Anastasia Potapova edged out American Alycia Parks 6-2, 5-7, 6-4 to advance to the last 16 of the Cymbiotika San Diego Open on Monday evening.
The pair battled it out for two hours, 20 minutes, with Potapova finally getting the upper hand in the deciding set. Her victory was much aided by Parks, however, who struck a total of 16 double faults across the match.
Potapova, ranked No 27, will face top seed Ons Jabeur next.
