Wuhan Open: Fernandez advances to last 16

Canadian Leylah Fernandez moved into the last 16 of the Wuhan Open by edging out Russian lucky loser Kamilla Rakhimova 6-2, 5-7, 7-6 (4) at the Optics Valley International Tennis Center on Wednesday.
Fernandez, ranked No 28, will play the winner of the match between Chinese Zheng Qinwen, the No 5 seed, and Romanian wildcard Jaqueline Cristian next.
Ahead of her victory, the 22-year-old Canadian beat Russian Diana Shnaider, the No 12 seed (6-7 (7), 6-3, 6-3).
Rakhimova, ranked No 66, won against Japanese qualifier Moyuka Uchijima (6-1, 6-2) in the previous round of the Wuhan tournament.
