Wuhan Open: Gauff last to go into quarter-finals

American Coco Gauff, the No. 3 seed, continued her strong run at the 2025 Wuhan Open by defeating Chinese wildcard Shuai Zhang 6-3, 6-2 on Thursday at the Optics Valley International Tennis Center. The confident 21-year-old American moved into the quarter-finals with a commanding performance that showcased her powerful serve and aggressive baseline game.

Gauff, currently ranked No. 3 in the world, wasted little time asserting dominance, breaking Zhang’s serve early and controlling the rallies with precision.

After cruising past Japanese qualifier Moyuka Uchijima 6-1, 6-0 in the previous round, Gauff showed remarkable consistency and composure.
