Zhengzhou Open: Kalinina beats former world No 2 Zvonareva to reach quarter-finals

Ukraine’s Anhelina Kalinina advanced to the last eight of the Zhengzhou Open by winning against Russian qualifier Vera Zvonareva 7-5, 6-1 at Zhongyuan Tennis Training Base Management Center on Wednesday night.
Kalinina, ranked No 28 in the world, will play China’s Qinwen Zheng or Greece’s Maria Sakkari, the No 3 seed, next.
In the previous round of the Zhengzhou tournament, the Ukrainian beat Australian qualifier Ellen Perez (6-1, 6-3).
Zvonareva, ranked No 369 but a former world No 2, defeated No 9 seed Veronika Kudermetova (6-2, 7-6 (5)) earlier in the week.
