Zhengzhou Open: Tsurenko into quarter-finals

Ukrainian qualifier Lesia Tsurenko defeated Croat Donna Vekic, the No 10 seed, 7-6 (4), 7-6 (2) to move into the last eight of the Zhengzhou Open at Zhongyuan Tennis Training Base Management Center on Wednesday afternoon.

Tsurenko, ranked No 43, will face the winner of the match between No 7 seed Barbora Krejcikova and Croat Petra Martic next.

The 34-year-old Ukrainian won against Russian lucky loser Diana Shnaider (6-4, 6-2) ahead of her victory.

In the previous round of the Zhengzhou tournament, Vekic, ranked No 21, won against Japanese qualifier Nao Hibino (6-4, 6-2).
