Chinese Qinwen Zheng defeated Italian Jasmine Paolini 6-2, 6-3 to reach the final of the Zhengzhou Open at Zhongyuan Tennis Training Base Management Center on Saturday.
Zheng, ranked No 24, will face the winner of the match between No 7 seed Barbora Krejcikova and Russian Daria Kasatkina, the No 8 seed, next.
In the previous rounds of the Zhengzhou tournament, the 21-year-old Chinese won against Ukrainian qualifier Kateryna Volodko (6-4, 6-3), Greek Maria Sakkari, the No 3 seed (7-6 (2), 6-3) and Ukrainian Anhelina Kalinina (6-3, 6-2).
Paolini, ranked No 31, beat Japanese lucky loser Moyuka Uchijima (6-2, 6-3), Frenchwoman Caroline Garcia, the No 6 seed (3-6, 6-4, 7-5) and German qualifier Laura Siegemund (6-0, 7-5) earlier in the tournament.
