One day after winning the Roland-Garros singles title, Barbora Krejcikova completed a double at the French major by winning the women’s doubles title alongside long-time partner Katerina Siniakova.
The second-seeded Czech duo lifted the title on Sunday with a 6-4, 6-2 win over 14th seeds Bethanie Mattek-Sands and Iga Swiatek.
This was the third career Grand Slam doubles title for Krejcikova and Siniakova on the pro circuit. They had won the Roland-Garros and Wimbledon titles in 2018. The pair had also reached the doubles final at the Australian Open earlier this year.
Krejcikova first woman since Mary Pierce to complete the Roland-Garros double
Krejcikova becomes the first woman since Mary Pierce in 2000 to win the Roland-Garros women’s singles and doubles title in the same year.
Serena Williams was the last woman to accomplish this feat at any major – hers coming at Wimbledon in 2016 when she won the singles title and the women’s doubles with sister Venus.
As a result of her efforts this week, Krejcikova will rise to No 15 in the singles rankings and also relcaim the world No 1 doubles ranking on Monday.
