Top seed Kasatkina extended to three sets by American teen McNally in Cleveland

The 27th ranked Russian will take on sixth seed Magda Linette in the quarter-finals next

Top seed Daria Kasatkina, of Russia, advanced to the quarter-finals of the WTA Tennis in the Land event in Cleveland after a three-set battle with American teen Caty McNally.

Ranked No 27 in the world, Kasatkina lost the first set against the 19-year-old McNally before bouncing back to win in three sets 6-4, 6-4, 6-2 in one hour and 54 minutes.

The former world No 10 will next take on sixth seed Magda Linette, who scored a tough 7-6, 6-4 win over 16-year-old Czech qualifier Linda Fruhvirtova.

Also advancing on Tuesday were Aliaksandra Sasnovich who upset fifth seed Nadia Podoroska 6-7, 6-4, 6-4, and Romania’s Irina-Camelia Begu, who defeated Polona Hercog 7-6, 7-5. Sasnovich and Begu will also clash in the last eight.

Mladenovic and Kostyuk win in Chicago

Meanwhile, over at the WTA Chicago Women’s Open, seventh seed Kristina Mladenovic and eighth seed Marta Kostyuk won their second round matches to moves into the quarter-finals.

France’s Mladenovic scored a 6-3, 6-2 win over wild card Francoise Abanda while Ukraine’s Kostyuk scored a 6-2, 6-3 win over Estonia’s Kaia Kanepi.

Russia’s Varvara Gracheva also advanced when qualifier Ana Bogdan retired while trailing 7-5, 3-1.
