Andrey Rublev got the Russian Tennis Federation off to the best possible start in the Davis Cup semi-final as he beat Germany’s Dominic Koepfer 6-4, 6-0 in the first singles match of the day – which lasted just 49 minutes.
The Russian took the only break point chance of the first set while winning 94 per cent of points on his first serves and hitting seven aces.
And in the second set he was utterly dominant, dismantling the Koepfer serve with intense pace, and winning all three break points for a perfect record.
“The main difference today was I was super-focused, game by game I was trying to raise my level and play better and better – that was the key,” Rublev said afterwards.
World No 2 Daniil Medvedev plays Germany’s No 1 Jan-Lennard Struff in the second singles match.
