Chinese Shuai Zhang, the No 8 seed, defeated Ukrainian Dayana Yastremska 7-5, 6-4 to move into the semi-finals of the Birmingham Classic at Edgbaston Priory Club on Friday.
Zhang, ranked No 54, will play Romanian Sorana Cirstea, the No 6 seed, next.
The 33-year-old Chinese won against Croat qualifier Jana Fett (5-7, 6-3, 6-3) and edged out Romanian Elena-Gabriela Ruse (6-2, 2-6, 7-5) ahead of her victory.
Earlier in the tournament, Yastremska, ranked No 79, won against Pole Magda Linette (6-4, 6-3) and edged out Latvian Jelena Ostapenko, the top seed (3-6, 7-5, 7-5).
