Slovak Alex Molcan defeated American Marcos Giron in straight sets to move into the third round of Wimbledon at the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club in London on Thursday.
Molcan, now coached by Novak Djokovic‘s former long-time coach Marian Vajda, won 6-3, 6-2, 6-4 on one hour and 49 minutes.
Molcan, ranked No 51, will play 11th seeded Taylor Fritz in the third round. Fritz defeated British wildcard Alastair Gray 6-3, 7-6, 6-3, also on Thursday.
The win continues a good run for Molcan at the Grand Slams over the past year. The Slovak reached the third round at the US Open last year and the second round at the first two Majors of the 2022 season.
