American Katie Volynets moved into the quarter-finals of the Austin Open by edging out Russian Anastasia Potapova, the No 3 seed, 5-7, 6-2, 7-5 at the Westwood Country Club on Wednesday evening.
Volynets, ranked No 92, will face the winner of the match between American wildcard Peyton Stearns and Swede wildcard Mirjam Bjorklund next.
The 21-year-old American defeated Alison Riske-Amritraj (6-3, 3-6, 6-0) ahead of her victory.
In the previous round, Potapova, ranked No 28, won against American wildcard Elizabeth Mandlik (6-2, 6-0).
