Austin Open: Ukraine’s Kostyuk reaches semi-finals

Ukrainian Marta Kostyuk, the No 8 seed, moved into the semi-finals of the Austin Open by beating German Anna-Lena Friedsam 7-6 (6), 6-2 at the Westwood Country Club on Friday evening.
Kostyuk, ranked No 52, will face the winner of the match between Russian Anna Kalinskaya and American Danielle Collins, the No 4 seed, next.
Ahead of her victory, the 20-year-old Ukrainian won against Hungarian Dalma Galfi (7-5, 6-1) and American Madison Brengle (6-3, 3-6, 6-0).
Friedsam, ranked No 108, defeated Ukrainian Dayana Yastremska (6-4, 6-4) and edged out Russian lucky loser Erika Andreeva (7-5, 6-7 (2), 7-6 (8)) earlier in the tournament.
