Generali Open: Thiem saves five match points to reach the final

Austrian wildcard Dominic Thiem edged out Serb Laslo Djere, the No 5 seed, (6-7 (3), 7-5, 7-6 (8)) to advance to the final of the Generali Open at Kitzbühel Tennis Club in Kitzbuhel on Friday evening.
Thiem, ranked No 116, will play Sebastian Baez next. The Austrian will play his first final since the ATP Finals 2020 and he qualified in style after saving five match points: three on his serve at 5-6 and two in the tiebreak.
Ahead of his victory, the Austrian beat Argentinian qualifier Facundo Bagnis (7-6 (3), 7-6 (6)), Chinese Zhizhen Zhang (1-6, 6-3, 6-2) and Frenchman Arthur Rinderknech (4-6, 6-3, 6-4).
Djere, ranked No 38, won against Australian Christopher O’Connell (6-4, 7-6 (4)), Brazilian wildcard Thiago Seyboth Wild (7-6 (5), 6-3) and Argentinian Pedro Cachin, the No 3 seed (6-4, 6-2) in the previous rounds of the Kitzbuhel tournament.
