Mubadala Citi DC Open: Gauff cruises past Bencic to set Samsonova semi-final
Coco Gauff beat Belinda Bencic 6-1, 6-2 on Friday night and will face Russian Liudmila Samsonova, the No 8 seed, in the next round

American Coco Gauff has booked her semi-final spot at this year’s Mubadala Citi DC Open in style, sweeping past Switzerland’s Belinda Bencic for the loss of just three games, 6-1, 6-2.
The No 3 seed broke her opponent’s serve six times across the two sets, leveling the pair’s head-to-head at 1-1. Gauff, ranked No 7, will face Russian Liudmila Samsonova, the No 8 seed, next.
In the previous round, the 19-year-old American beat qualifier Hailey Baptiste (6-1, 6-4).
Bencic, ranked No 15, benefited from the abandonment of Russian Anastasia Potapova (6-5) and defeated American qualifier Lauren Davis (6-1, 6-4) in the previous rounds.
