Western & Southern Open: Muchova reaches semi-finals
Karolina Muchova benefitted from the abandonment of Marie Bouzkova (3-0) on Friday evening and will face the winner of the match between Tunisian Ons Jabeur, the No 5 seed, and Belarusian Aryna Sabalenka, the second seed, in the next round

Karolina Muchova advanced to the semi-finals of the Western & Southern Open when Marie Bouzkova retired at the Lindner Tennis Family Center in Cincinnati on Friday evening.
Muchova, ranked No 17 and the runner-up at the French Open earlier this summer, led 3-0 when Bouzkova, ranked No 35, pulled out on Friday.
The Czech will face the winner of the match between Tunisian Ons Jabeur, the No 5 seed, and Belarusian Aryna Sabalenka, the second seed, next.

Muchova won against Brazilian Beatriz Haddad Maia, the No 12 seed (6-7 (3), 6-1, 6-4), Croat Petra Martic (6-3, 3-6, 6-3) and Greek Maria Sakkari, the No 8 seed (6-3, 2-6, 6-3) ahead of her victory.
In the previous rounds in Cincinnati, Bouzkova defeated Romanian Irina-Camelia Begu (6-2, 6-2), Belgian Elise Mertens (6-2, 4-6, 6-1) and American Jessica Pegula, the No 3 seed (6-4, 6-0).
