Sabalenka officially confirmed as world No 1; US Open champion Gauff up to career-best No 3 – WTA rankings update

Aryna Sabalenka was officially confirmed as the world No 1 for the first time on Monday, the Belarusian ending Iga Swiatek‘s 75-week reign at the top.
Sabalenka is the 29th woman to top the WTA rankings, which began in 1973. She sits 1071 points ahead Swiatek.
“Becoming world No 1, it’s a huge improvement,” said Sabalenka, who was beaten in the US Open final by American Coco Gauff.
“I’m really proud of myself that all those years I have been working so hard helped me to become world No 1.”
Gauff hits new career-high No 3 after first slam
Coco Gauff, meanwhile, climbs to a career-high ranking of No 3 after winning her first Grand Slam title at the age of 19, and on home soil.
The American, who thrilled the crowds in New York with her performances, climbs three places. Elena Rybakina is fourth while Jessica Pegula drops two places to fifth.
Wimbledon champion Marketa Vondrousova is up three to sixth, a new career-high, while US Open semi-finalist Karolina Muchova, the runner-up at Roland-Garros, also sits at a new personal best, up two to No 8
Madison Keys, a semi-finalist in New York, is another big climber, up seven to No 11.
