Brazil’s Beatriz Haddad Maia, the No 7 seed, advanced to the quarter-finals of the Cymbiotika San Diego Open by beating against Ukrainian Marta Kostyuk 7-5, 6-7 (3), 6-2 on Wednesday,
Haddad Maia, ranked No 20, will face No 4 seed Barbora Krejcikova, form the Czech Republic, next.
The Brazilian had defeated Canadian wildcard Leylah Fernandez (6-3, 5-7, 6-2) in the first round. Kostyuk, ranked No 45, defeated Pole Magda Linette (6-2, 7-6 (5)) in her opening match.
