Russian Veronika Kudermetova, the No 8 seed, advanced to the quarter-finals of the Toray Pan Pacific Open Tennis Tournament by defeating American Kayla Day 6-3, 6-3 on Wednesday night.
Kudermetova, ranked No 19, will play the winner of the match between Pole Iga Swiatek, the top seed, and Japanese qualifier Mai Hontama next.
Ahead of her victory, the Russian won against qualifier Harriet Dart (6-3, 7-6 (4)).
Day, ranked No 96, won against Japanese wildcard Moyuka Uchijima (6-2, 6-2) in the previous round.
