Katerina Siniakova defeated Romanian Sorana Cirstea, the No 3 seed, 6-3, 7-5 to advance to the quarter-finals of the Ningbo Open on Wednesday.
Siniakova, ranked No 90, will face Argentinian Nadia Podoroska next.
Katerina Siniakova won against American lucky loser Elizabeth Mandlik (6-0, 6-4) ahead of her victory.
In the previous round, Cirstea, ranked No 26, won against American Claire Liu (7-5, 4-6, 6-3).
