Argentinian Martina Capurro Taborda won against Frenchwoman Carole Monnet 7-6 (7), 6-0 to reach the last four of the Florianopolis Open on Friday evening.
Capurro Taborda, ranked No 194, will face Argentinian Nadia Podoroska, the No 3 seed, next.
Earlier in the tournament, the Argentinian defeated Brazilian wildcard Carolina Bohrer Martins (6-3, 6-4) and American Elizabeth Mandlik, the No 8 seed (6-3, 3-6, 6-3).
Monnet, ranked No 181, won against Brazilian wildcard Carolina M. Alves (6-1, 6-2) and Russian Diana Shnaider, the second seed (6-4, 1-6, 6-1) in the previous rounds of the Brazilian tournament.
